February is Black History Month

Literature has always allowed readers to consider a unique perspective and writing plays a significant role in history. Stop by the library to check out our selection of black writers and their works.

American Instagrammer and Social Advocate, Nicole Cardoza, describes in her daily email newsletter from January 27, 2021 that, “Even today, Black literary leaders offer poignant narratives of the liberation we all strive for.” Cardoza goes on to say, “Black literary leaders were routinely censored and banned. Many people don’t realize that poet Maya Angelou is one of the most banned authors in the U.S. due to the topics in her autobiographical work “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” (New African).”
